Online vision tests are part of a growing field called telehealth or telemedicine. Telehealth lets you receive medical care without an in-person office visit, but rather visiting with your doctor online or over the phone. This has been especially appealing during the recent pandemic, as virtual visits reduce everyone’s exposure to COVID-19.

So, what does Visibly’s vision test do?
Visibly’s vision test checks your visual acuity, which is how well you see with or without a vision correction, such as glasses or contact lenses. It’s quick, easy, and can be done from the comfort and privacy of your own home with a computer and smartphone.
The Visibly’s vision test works in four easy steps:
CHECK ELIGIBILITY – There are certain age, location, and vision health requirements for taking our vision test. In order to be eligible for Visibly’s online vision test, you must:
- Reside in a U.S. state where our test is currently activated (you can view the list of activated states here)
- Be between the ages of 18-55 (you can read more about our age parameters here)
- Have no health conditions that may affect your vision
- Submit information about your current vision prescription
COMPLETE VISIBLY’S VISION TEST – It’s quick, easy, and only takes 5 minutes to complete. Be sure to have ten feet of space so you can accurately set up your space to test your vision. Don’t worry – there are on-screen instructions to help you properly set up your space for the test.
DOCTOR REVIEW – Yes, a real doctor will review your results. A licensed ophthalmologist or optometrist in your state will review your test results, medical history, and prior prescription.
RECEIVE RESULTS – Within 24 hours, you’ll be notified of your results. If your current prescription is still effective for your vision, the doctor has approved your prescription and it will be renewed for your use. You can then use your prescription to purchase contact lenses or glasses anywhere you choose! If our doctors believe that your current prescription is not fit for your vision, the doctor will provide you with next steps for other clinical guidance.

What does Visibly’s vision test not do?
Visibly’s vision test does not conduct a complete eye exam which includes a complete health history, refraction (testing that determines your prescription for glasses or contact lenses), eye coordination, and eye health (includes testing for cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration). This can only be done during an in-person eye exam with an eye doctor using specialized equipment and procedures.
Additionally, Visibly’s vision test is designed to renew existing contacts and/or glasses prescription, so we cannot write you a new prescription nor change your current Rx.
