Is there a real doctor reviewing my Visibly vision test?

Visibly’s vision test allows you to renew your vision prescription and receive a vision prescription from a real doctor without leaving your home

Visibly has strict standards for who can take their vision test and the final decision about who gets a prescription renewal is up to me – and me alone – as a practicing optometrist. I am one of those real, live eye doctors reviewing and deciding whether to renew your prescription. I also appreciate that the technology is HIPAA-protected and that data security is a high priority for Visibly.

Have you completed an online vision test?

Have you tested your eyesight without a trip to the eye doctor?

Are you wondering if a real doctor is evaluating the results?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you’re in the right spot! In short, the answer is yes, a real doctor is reviewing your vision test results every time you receive a renewed vision prescription by completing Visibly’s online vision test. We’re here to dive in and review what an online vision test does and does not do, as well as explaining how it works and the benefits it can provide.

Online vision tests are part of a growing field called telehealth or telemedicine. Telehealth lets you receive medical care without an in-person office visit, but rather visiting with your doctor online or over the phone. This has been especially appealing during the recent pandemic, as virtual visits reduce everyone’s exposure to COVID-19.

Visibly created the first online visual acuity test in 2013. The hundreds of eye doctors in our network are all licensed optometrists or ophthalmologists in the state where the test is taken. “I like the way Visibly is continuously developing and perfecting their online vision test,” says Dr. Karen Dorman, an optometrist from Merrick, New York. “Visibly has strict standards for who can take their vision test and the final decision about who gets a prescription renewal is up to me – and me alone – as a practicing optometrist. I am one of those real, live eye doctors reviewing and deciding whether to renew your prescription. I also appreciate that the technology is HIPAA-protected and that data security is a high priority for Visibly.”

So, what does Visibly’s vision test do?

Visibly’s vision test checks your visual acuity, which is how well you see with or without a vision correction, such as glasses or contact lenses. It’s quick, easy, and can be done from the comfort and privacy of your own home with a computer and smartphone.

The Visibly’s vision test works in four easy steps:

CHECK ELIGIBILITY – There are certain age, location, and vision health requirements for taking our vision test. In order to be eligible for Visibly’s online vision test, you must:

  1. Reside in a U.S. state where our test is currently activated (you can view the list of activated states here)
  2. Be between the ages of 18-55 (you can read more about our age parameters here)
  3. Have no health conditions that may affect your vision
  4. Submit information about your current vision prescription

COMPLETE VISIBLY’S VISION TEST – It’s quick, easy, and only takes 5 minutes to complete. Be sure to have ten feet of space so you can accurately set up your space to test your vision. Don’t worry – there are on-screen instructions to help you properly set up your space for the test.

DOCTOR REVIEW – Yes, a real doctor will review your results. A licensed ophthalmologist or optometrist in your state will review your test results, medical history, and prior prescription.

RECEIVE RESULTS – Within 24 hours, you’ll be notified of your results. If your current prescription is still effective for your vision, the doctor has approved your prescription and it will be renewed for your use. You can then use your prescription to purchase contact lenses or glasses anywhere you choose! If our doctors believe that your current prescription is not fit for your vision, the doctor will provide you with next steps for other clinical guidance.

If you need help completing the vision test or have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. The Visibly support team is always happy to help.

What does Visibly’s vision test not do?

Visibly’s vision test does not conduct a complete eye exam which includes a complete health history, refraction (testing that determines your prescription for glasses or contact lenses), eye coordination, and eye health (includes testing for cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration). This can only be done during an in-person eye exam with an eye doctor using specialized equipment and procedures.

Additionally, Visibly’s vision test is designed to renew existing contacts and/or glasses prescription, so we cannot write you a new prescription nor change your current Rx.

Ready to renew your vision prescription from home?

Use Visibly’s online vision test and you’ll have an updated prescription within 24 hours!

Lastly, why should I complete an online vision test?

Online vision tests are not for everyone, but they do offer some major benefits:

  • Trusted and backed by real doctors – A real eye doctor reviews your results and decides whether or not to renew your prescription each and every time someone completes the vision test
  • Convenience – take the test anytime without leaving your home
  • Emergencies – get a prescription renewal if you break or lose your glasses on vacation
  • Nothing to Lose – we provide a full refund if you don’t pass Visibly’s vision test
  • Safe and protected – Your health information is HIPAA compliant, and is secure and safe

Visibly is a community of nearly one million and growing. We hope you will join us for accessible and affordable vision prescriptions!
